A Little About Us
At Saffron Ice Cream Company, we truly love what we do — and we’re proud that our customers love it too.
The company was started by a boy in his Mums kitchen, with a love for exceptional quality ice cream which celebrates the local area, and has grown into a major regional producer. For the past 16 years, we’ve been expertly crafting ice cream, vegan ice cream, refreshing sorbets, and even ice cream for dogs from a family-owned farm just outside Saffron Walden. We produce fresh ice cream every single day and have worked hard to win multiple national and regional awards, including Great Taste Awards.
We supply independent shops, cafés, restaurants, farm shops and attractions across East Anglia, and we also meet our customers face-to-face at local events. Relationships matter hugely to us — we know many of our customers personally, as they do us, and that’s something we’re very proud of.

We’re a small, close-knit team where everyone plays an important role. There’s no corporate hierarchy here — we work collaboratively, support one another, and genuinely enjoy what we do. Our work ethos is very much ‘let’s support each other to get the job done, and successfully’.

Why We’re Hiring
Our Sales Manager is moving on after four fantastic years, and while we’ll miss her, we’re excited about what’s next. We’re looking for someone who can bring fresh energy, new ideas, and a structured approach to help us grow.
We’re ambitious — we want to expand our reach and increase sales in a sustainable way so that more people can discover and enjoy what we produce. We’re currently operating at around 50% of our production capacity, which means there’s real opportunity to grow.
Who You Are
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is a sales person who has proven sales experience and can demonstrate results
- Enjoys building genuine, long-term relationships
- Has a passion for artisan food (experience in the food industry would be a real bonus)
- Is confident, personable, and memorable
- Doesn’t take rejection personally — and instead thrives on the challenge of winning new business
- Can sell both themselves and our ice cream with authenticity and enthusiasm
- Can organise their time to maximise efficency
You’ll need to be approachable and professional, someone who represents our brand beautifully whether on the phone, by email, on social media, or in person.
What the Role Looks Like
This role has two important parts, and a minor supplement:
A. Growing Our Customer Base
You’ll be identifying and approaching new customers — from fabulous restuants to well-known local attractions.
We currently work with around 250 customers, mostly within an hour of Saffron Walden, but we know there are many, many more out there. You’ll be:
- Researching and Contacting identified prospects (phone and email)
- Following up on website and social media enquiries
- Visiting prospective customers with samples and brochures
- Representing us face-to-face
- Very active on our social media channels with your own content and interacting with our customers and prospect customers content
- Keeping up to date with the local restaurant scene - new openings, change of chefs etc
B. Looking After Our Existing Customers
We’ve worked hard for our customers, and we want to keep them. Account management is incredibly important to us.
You’ll:
- Build strong, supportive relationships
- Maintain and manage our CRM system, or implement any tools you require
- Keep customers engaged with promotions, information on new products etc
- Send area-specific WhatsApp updates – order reminders, key info etc
- Work closely with Dominic to review sales KPIs – Weekly sales meetings
We want our customers to feel they can always pick up the phone to us — and that we genuinely care about their business (which we do, we couldn’t do it without them!)
C. Extras
· Serve Ice cream at corporate events as required – during the working week (wage supplement)
· Deliver ice cream (as required) if we are short of delivery stafff
Working With Us
- Reporting to: Managing Director, Dominic Parry
- Based at our HQ near Saffron Walden
- Travel within a 30-mile radius (occasionally further)
- Company vehicle provided whilst conducting business
- A full driving license is required
- Full food safety trainig will be provided
Hours:
- Monday–Thursday: 9:00am–5:00pm, Friday: 9:00am–4:00pm
- Weekend event work of c. 8 days over the summer will be required. There is likely to be more available if you’d like to work more and increase earnings. (wage supplement)
Salary & Benefits
- Competitive base salary (dependent on experience)
- 10% commission on the first 10 orders from each new customer you bring to our community
- Estimated around £15,000 per year — with uncapped earning potential
- We estimate you’ll win business with c. 60 new customers a year
- 28 days’ holiday (pro rata)
