Mission statement
To create exceptional and memorable ice cream whilst, where possible, considering and minimising our environmental impact alongside maximising our sustainability.
How do we do this?
We love local suppliers and work with them as much as possible, often its these lovely locals who also support our business, so we embrace this little business ecosystem. Lots of our ingredients come locally – think soft fruits, fruit juices, sugar, honey, coffee and so on. We love local that much we extend this to business products and services too – take our designer and photographer… he’s in the office next door on the farm! Buying local reduces food miles.
Regular servicing of machinery and vehicles. Simples. You know the saying, look after your broom and your broom will look after you! We all look after our equipment as if were our own and have everything regularly serviced to ensure they are operating optimally and efficiently. Prevention is better than the cure – and cures are costly! We tie maintenance and serving in together, and always try to book when an engineer is in our area rather than calling them out just for us.
Our delivery vans are all Euro 6 diesel engines. Our vehicle refrigeration is electrically powered so we’re not relying on the vehicle to maintain a safe temperature for our ice cream deliveries. This uses a lot less fuel creating far less emissions.
We’re a small business and we create rubbish there’s no getting away from that. We partner with a recycling company to take away and recycle all our pre-sorted recycling. Our ‘actual’ rubbish is thankfully minimal. All food waste is fed to some lucky local piggies!
Our staff are encouraged to use multiuse containers for their lunch. We have no single use cutlery onsite and water is offered in festival style water breakers. Our washing machine and dishwasher are used on their eco settings.
We’re a busy little company so we’re here there any everywhere delivering our wears to our wonderful customers. To ensure we are as efficient as possible and not going over trodden ground, we set areas for delivery and optimise the delivery route for the drivers.
We use a lot of packaging. We proudly use compostable & recyclable retail packaging and recyclable food service packaging. We optimally fill each tub so they aren’t full of hot air and all retail outer packaging is produced with a degree of recycled cardboard. Our food service packaging is produced by a UK company for us.
We run our company as ‘made by local people, for local people’ as such we have a lively local workforce – we mean, who wouldn’t love to make ice cream for their job!
The above is a snapshot. We’re not perfect but we try, and always try to do a little more this week than we did last week. We’ve always got our ear out for new ideas or theories to maximise our green credentials.
