The Saffron Ice Cream Company are micro producers of luxury artisan dairy ice cream and refreshing sorbet. We are based in Saffron Walden and have been in operation for 15 years. We produce daily, and on a family-owned farm. Our products have won us many awards and we have a superior reputation with our customers. We sell to restaurants and shops, as well as direct to the public at numerous events.

Job Title: Ice Cream Production Assistant

We are excited to welcome a new member to the team to become an ice cream production assistant, this is a very rare role to come up with the last member of staff filling the role for the last 9 years! The role is full time, and will see you working in our farm kitchen alongside Harry (Production Manager) and Matt (Production Assistant) to create all our ice creams, sorbets and create our flavourings from real ingredients – many of which are locally sourced.

The role will see a lot of preparation from yourself and Matt whilst Harry makes the ice cream mix. The preparation will allow for the ice cream to be turned from mix to production smoothly and efficiently.

Please note this role requires some heavy lifting on limited occasions - some ingredients come in 25kg bags so you must be able to proficiently lift this weight.

Main Duties:

Helping with ice cream production – filling tubs, applying lids, filling outer cases, stacking of blast freezer

Gathering of packaging, making boxes in advance of production

Creating labels and applying to ice cream packaging

Stock rotation

Picking of ice cream orders (as required)

Loading of ice cream (as required)

General kitchen cleaning of surfaces, mopping floors etc

General paperwork – temperature checks, delivery intake etc

Putting away deliveries / ingredients as they arrive

Bringing ingredients from our refrigerated storage trailer into the kitchen

Maintenance of the vehicle –keeping vehicles presentable (as required)

Cleaning of returned event equipment (Trike / Trailer) (as required)

Reports to:

Harry Bond – Production Manager and Dominic Parry - Managing Director – Dominic Parry

Working area:

You will be based from our HQ in Saffron Walden. There may be addition work on weekends to help at events if you are interested in overtime. We are located behind Audley End Miniature Railway – you must be able to make your own way here, there is limited public transport.

Training:

Full health and safety / food training supplied.

Hours to work:

Dependant on workload, but it is expected 5 days a week. Generally, 8.00-5.30 in the summer and 9.00-5.00 in the winter.

Clothing:

All provided and washed in house.

Job Duration:

From ASAP. Trial of 1 month.

Dependant of experience

Ability to drive:

Not essential but a bonus

Holiday entitlement:

28 days pro rata.

NB. Due to insurance stipulations, we can only have those over 25 years old drive our vehicles.
